Description

Solid Sterling Silver Dimensions: 7/8″ wide by 7/8″ high The inspiration for this design comes from the reverse side of an 11th century anonymous Byzantine follis coin. Folles were bronze currency introduced in the late 3rd century. Starting in the 10th century anonymous folles were struck instead of the earlier coins which depicted images of Emperors. The folles depicted an image of Jesus on the obverse and on the reverse you would often find a jeweled cross with the abbreviated letters ICXC NIKA, which proclaims Jesus Christ Conquers. The cross shown in this design is the Justinian cross, a cross from a 6th century liturgical plate.
