The Trinity is a Christian doctrine that has stated from the 3rd century that the one God exists in three persons and one substance, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Gallery Byzantium’s medallion is based on the 15th century Russian icon titled Holy Trinity painted by Andrei Rublev. Rublev was one of the first iconographers to take the story of Abrahams’ Hospitality and depict it without Abraham and Sarah, leaving only the three angels. Rublev made this conscious decision to convey his idea of the unity and indivisibility of the Holy Trinity.
